Role Overview
This position is focused on managing the planned rollout of monthly Windows security updates across a defined server environment. The role ensures patches are delivered on time, validated carefully, and deployed with minimal disruption to business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee the release of Microsoft’s monthly security updates for Windows servers.
- Assess each vulnerability fix for severity and business impact so deployment can be prioritized by risk.
- Build and run a structured test plan to confirm updates do not interfere with applications, system settings, or normal operations.
- Design a deployment approach that accounts for bandwidth constraints, uptime needs, and the spread of endpoints across locations.
- Keep detailed records of update schedules, test outcomes, rollout progress, and deployment results.
- Prepare routine status and compliance reports for stakeholders, including any issues or exceptions encountered.
- Assist with incident response efforts involving security vulnerabilities by investigating causes and helping implement corrective actions.
- Work with Microsoft and other vendors to track upcoming updates, obtain required patches, and resolve technical or deployment-related challenges.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience working with Windows administration and patch management in enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on background in administering Windows operating systems at scale.
- Working knowledge of WSUS, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM), or comparable patch management platforms.
- Solid understanding of security fundamentals, especially vulnerability management and patch governance.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability, with experience making risk-based decisions.
- Experience managing complex IT initiatives that include testing, coordination, and deployment activities.
- Clear communication skills for explaining technical matters to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Hands-on exposure to Qualys will be an advantage.
