Job description
Role overview
This is a permanent Senior Education Adviser position based in the Christchurch office. The role sits within the Education Advisory service and supports the wider education sector in turning system priorities into practical action.
The current focus across the sector includes lifting attendance and achievement through a knowledge-rich curriculum informed by the science of learning. Work is also underway to strengthen learning support interventions and build the capability of the education workforce. This role contributes by providing proactive, consistent support and services through regional teams.
What the role involves
- Sharing government priorities and strategies clearly so they are understood and put into practice.
- Helping identify where implementation support is needed and arranging that support.
- Following progress and preparing updates on implementation activity.
- Working alongside schools, kura and whānau to improve student attendance and engagement.
- Using the available support tools and interventions to improve attendance and achievement outcomes.
About the team
The Education Services Group within Te Mahau provides integrated services that help education settings operate effectively and support student participation and achievement. The group works to reduce barriers to learning, and also offers regulatory advice, support and oversight to early learning providers, schools and kura.
The group’s priorities are centred on three areas: improving practice and guidance to create more consistent national coordination while preserving regional flexibility; delivering integrated support through regional and national services and maintaining key stakeholder relationships; and monitoring service effectiveness, efficiency and fairness while advising on improvements and intervening where required.
About you
You should bring knowledge of the schooling sector and the legislation that affects it. The role also calls for someone who can build strong relationships, influence change, and use data and insights to spot patterns, risks and opportunities. You will need excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide clear, timely written and verbal advice.
Success in this position also depends on your ability to work collaboratively within an integrated team, solve problems with others, understand and apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and uphold the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
