About the role

Backpack’s design function shapes how people experience the brand both outside the product and inside it. As a Senior Brand & Visual Designer, you will establish a clear, confident visual direction across every touchpoint and elevate the quality of the details that help a product feel trustworthy, not just usable.

You will collaborate closely with Product Design, Marketing, and Engineering to build and maintain a unified identity across everything the company ships.

Key responsibilities

You will set and maintain a consistent visual language across marketing, social channels, and brand-facing materials. That consistency will also extend into the product through illustration, iconography, imagery, and other visual details that influence the overall feel of the experience.

You will replace temporary or low-quality assets with original work that better represents the brand, and you will create reusable design resources such as illustration systems, brand guidelines, and templates so the wider team can work from a shared foundation. You will also work with product designers to ensure the brand and product remain visually aligned as both continue to evolve.

Requirements

Applicants should bring at least 5 years of professional experience in brand design and/or visual design, along with a portfolio that demonstrates strong digital work. The ideal candidate has excellent illustration ability, a distinctive and original visual point of view, and the capability to avoid generic or off-the-shelf aesthetics.

The role also calls for experience shaping or refining a brand identity and maintaining consistency as it scales, plus a strong attention to detail and the discipline to apply visual systems consistently. Comfort moving between marketing work and in-product design is important.

Nice to have

Experience with motion or animation would be a plus. Background in fintech, crypto, or other fast-moving consumer technology brands is also preferred.
