Job description
Role overview
As a Senior Android Engineer at idealo, you will help shape the next generation of its award-winning e-commerce mobile apps. The products support millions of people in comparing prices and making better purchase decisions on their phones. You will join a fully integrated, autonomous team that combines established technologies with thoughtful experimentation to create excellent user experiences and contribute to idealo’s mission. The team owns its codebase and makes its own technical decisions, and this role is important to supporting that continued growth.
What you will do
- Work within a highly motivated Android engineering group focused on strong product and software outcomes.
- Partner closely with product owners, UX designers, data analysts, and the backend-for-frontend engineering team.
- Contribute across the full product lifecycle in an agile setup, from early ideation through operating products at scale.
- Build on a modern Kotlin codebase and use current tools and practices to innovate efficiently.
- Collaborate with UX colleagues to refine the interface and improve features during implementation.
- Choose pragmatic solutions, make sensible trade-offs, and reduce complexity so the team can deliver more effectively and with greater impact.
What we are looking for
- Strong Android development expertise with substantial hands-on experience in Kotlin and Kotlin coroutines.
- Solid practical knowledge of MVVM, Clean Code, and SOLID principles, along with software design and architecture patterns.
- Ideally, experience integrating GraphQL APIs.
- A commitment to producing code that is readable, dependable, maintainable, and easy to test.
- Clear communication skills, curiosity, and a collaborative mindset for solving complex or challenging problems.
- Ability to work independently, stay organised, and operate well in a similarly self-driven team environment.
Benefits and support
- Access to learning and development support, including the idealo Learning Hub, e-learning platforms such as Udemy, coaching and mediation, plus an additional individual learning budget.
- Office perks in central Berlin, including free organic breakfast, complimentary vegan and vegetarian lunch, free coffee, lemonades, after-work beer, and a foosball table.
- Use of a rooftop terrace with panoramic views over Berlin, suitable for connecting with colleagues across the group.
- Free counselling and support for professional, personal, family, and health-related matters through pme-Familienservice.
- Flexible commuting options with a job bike or Deutschlandticket.
- Fitness and sports memberships tailored to personal needs, such as Urban Sports or Gympass.
- Regular celebrations and social connection through team events, company events, and organized moments throughout the year.
Additional information
This position is based in Berlin and follows an onsite working model. The role is intended for a full-time employment arrangement.
