About the role
This is a significant opportunity for an experienced health and safety professional to help shape a more proactive, risk-led wellbeing and safety approach within the organisation. The position has evolved to better support a stronger focus on prevention, and it offers the chance to influence how health and safety is embedded across the business.
In this senior advisory position, you will support leaders, strengthen organisational capability, improve systems and practices, and help build a lasting safety culture. Your work will have a broad impact on leadership capability, risk management, and overall organisational performance.
Key responsibilities
- Offer senior, evidence-based guidance across the full range of health and safety matters.
- Help shape, deliver, and assess strategic health and safety initiatives, ensuring they support organisational priorities.
- Take ownership of incident investigation management.
- Use reporting, insights, and analysis to support decision-making and drive cultural improvement.
- Work closely with People and Capability teams to support a joined-up approach to wellbeing and safety.
- Run workshops, training sessions, and communication activities that strengthen engagement and capability at every level.
What you will bring
The organisation is looking first and foremost for the right person, including how you build relationships, approach challenges, and make an impact.
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand health and safety law, standards, and current best practice.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and build effective relationships across all levels of an organisation.
- Experience developing or improving health and safety management systems in large or complex environments.
- Well-developed analytical, communication, and coaching capabilities.
- A full New Zealand driver licence is required.
- At least 5 years of health and safety experience, including 2 or more years in a senior advisory role.
- A tertiary or postgraduate qualification in Health and Safety is preferred.

Location
This role is based in Christchurch or Queenstown.
Salary
The salary range for this position is between $115,536 and $141,751. Starting pay will depend on the successful candidate’s skills, knowledge, experience, and internal pay relativity.
