Job description
About Fair Ways
Fair Ways is a children’s services charity rooted in the Solent region, providing fostering, education, residential, and family support. Its work is guided by a strong service ethos focused on making a meaningful impact, with success measured by positive change rather than financial return. The organisation supports more than 400 children, families, young people, and vulnerable adults each year.
Role overview
The school is seeking a Science Teacher to join its Eastleigh setting and work with young people who have additional needs, particularly Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Learners are typically supported through highly personalised 1:1 or 2:1 teaching and follow a curriculum tailored to their individual needs. Many of these students have experienced long periods away from education and may have moved through several previous placements before joining Fair Ways.
What the role involves
You will contribute to teaching and learning in a setting where flexibility, care, and individualised planning are essential. The role includes designing and delivering lessons suited to varied needs, supporting students toward further education, training, or employment, and working closely with colleagues and external partners to improve learner outcomes.
Additional information
This is a term-time-only position with a working pattern of 37.5 hours per week. A full driving licence and access to a car are required. Applicants must be prepared to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and Fair Ways will cover the cost of this disclosure. The organisation is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this post, so candidates must already have the right to work in the UK.
Support for students
- Create personalised lesson plans, deliver teaching, mark student work, and adapt approaches so every learner can access the curriculum effectively.
- Support young people in building plans for education, employment, and training, while helping them work toward these goals through careful planning and delivery.
- Track assessments, monitor progress, and take responsibility for achievement and outcomes within your subject area.
- Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Personal Education Plans (PEPs) by supplying data, setting targets, and shaping lesson planning.
- Work with employers, colleges, universities, and training providers to open up suitable opportunities for students.
- Show awareness of how early life experiences can influence behaviour and be willing to develop understanding of severe challenging behaviour.
- Use positive handling strategies when necessary to help keep incidents safe and work consistently as part of a team.
- Support the Head of School and Deputy Head in shaping the curriculum and applying teaching strategies that keep the subject engaging for all learners.
- Follow safeguarding expectations in line with legal requirements, Fair Ways policies, and government guidance.
Candidate requirements
- Hold QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification, or be actively working toward one.
- Have strong Science curriculum knowledge at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Bring experience of working with children in a SEN environment, or transferable experience and skills that are relevant to the role.
Benefits and rewards
- Access to staff lotteries with prizes such as £1000 holiday vouchers, weekend breaks, luxury hampers, and a £1000 fostering referral scheme.
- Holiday accrual, plus the option to buy up to 5 additional days of leave.
- Health and support cover through Simply Health, an Employee Assistance Scheme, emergency financial support, and 24/7 counselling.
- Early Pay access, allowing part of your salary to be withdrawn early each month in case of unexpected needs.
- Funding through an Education Grant for accreditation up to master’s level, along with leadership development opportunities.
- Team-building events, summer festivals, wellbeing initiatives, discounted gym membership, and a cycle-to-work scheme.
- Annual Staff Awards, Long Service Awards, a pension scheme, and Blue Light Card eligibility.
- A diverse and inclusive workplace that values different perspectives and community representation.
- Some benefits may vary depending on contract type.
Invitation to apply
Fair Ways encourages applicants who are motivated by purpose-led work and want to help shape better futures for young people. The team is looking for someone enthusiastic about teaching, support, and making a lasting difference.
