Role overview

Townsville City Council is seeking a Scheduler to support Parks and Open Space Management within Infrastructure and Operations. In this permanent full-time role, you will help coordinate maintenance teams working across arboricultural work and other tree-related matters, ensuring jobs are assigned effectively, resourced properly, and completed safely and on schedule.

You will play a key part in planning and prioritising work, responding to urgent requests, and keeping operations running smoothly for the community. The role involves close collaboration with supervisors and other teams, with a strong focus on safe work practices, organised workflow, and efficient service delivery.

Position details

Division/Section: Infrastructure and Operations / Construction Maintenance and Operations

Employment type: Permanent full-time, 9-day fortnight, 36.25 hours per week

Work location: Dalrymple Road Depot, Garbutt

Salary: Base salary of $83,385 to $89,379 per year plus superannuation

Key duties

  • Plan and coordinate maintenance work for arboricultural and tree-related tasks.
  • Allocate crews, equipment, and information so jobs can be completed safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain forward work planning while also adjusting priorities for urgent incoming requests.
  • Work with supervisors and other business units to support smooth scheduling and service delivery.
  • Contribute to safe work practices and continuous improvement in maintenance planning.

Qualifications and experience

  • Current manual Class C driver’s licence.
  • A qualification in business administration, planning, or scheduling is highly desirable, though equivalent experience in a similar field will also be considered.
  • Sound understanding of scheduling methods, prioritisation, task allocation, and logical decision-making using scheduling tools.
  • Previous experience with scheduling procedures, business rules, guidelines, and operational processes.
  • Hands-on experience using works management and scheduling systems.
  • Knowledge of municipal services that support parks and open spaces, transport networks, drainage systems, and coastal infrastructure.
  • Awareness of tree maintenance activities such as pruning, removals, stump grinding, and inspections.
  • Understanding of tree risk categories, including high-risk and routine classifications.
  • Strong communication skills for dealing with residents and internal stakeholders.
