Key Responsibilities

The Scaffold Builder is expected to construct rough wooden frameworks and temporary structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnels, bridge supports, sewer supports, and shelters. Work is carried out according to sketches, blueprints, or oral instructions.

  • Take measurements of materials and distances using tools such as a square, measuring tape, or rule.
  • Cut or saw boards, timbers, and plywood to size with hand tools, power tools, or woodworking equipment.
  • Transfer cut marks onto materials with a pencil and scriber.
  • Review blueprints and diagrams to determine the required dimensions of the structure.
  • Assemble and secure wood or metal components using bolts, nails, or screws.
  • Reinforce and stabilize forms and other structures with nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges, and timbers.
  • Erect forms, frameworks, scaffolds, hoists, roof supports, or chutes using hand tools, a plumb rule, and a level.
  • Follow company safety rules as well as OSHA requirements at all times.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 4 years of related scaffold building experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolds, and similar structures while carrying tools or equipment, including heights up to 300 feet.
  • Capability to lift your own body weight while climbing.
  • Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and kneeling.
  • Comfort working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in environments with temperature changes and dust/noise exposure.
