Job description
About the Brand
Benefit Cosmetics is a makeup label born in San Francisco and now part of LVMH, the world’s leading luxury group. Known globally as the No. 1 brow brand, Benefit has built its reputation on playful beauty solutions and a distinctive witty voice. Started in 1976 by sisters Jean and Jane Ford, the brand has expanded to more than 60 countries across five continents.
Role Overview
The Sales & Education Manager is responsible for driving retail performance across Benefit India’s physical stores and counters. This role covers the complete management of the brick-and-mortar business, including sales delivery, training, recruitment, team leadership, and field engagement.
Business Performance
- Meet monthly and annual sales objectives for both products and services.
- Deliver stronger growth at existing doors than the wider market trend.
- Keep inventory accurate and ensure the core SKUs that drive most of the business remain continuously available, while also maintaining testers and GWPs in coordination with the inventory team.
- Plan the promotional calendar around sales targets and prior-year results, work with marketing to align the plan, and ensure full execution in stores.
- Lead field supervisors effectively so that brand initiatives are carried out consistently.
- Partner with marketing on in-store programs and activations.
Team Leadership
- Coach, guide, motivate, and develop field teams using all available on-counter coaching tools.
- Support team growth by challenging staff to improve and by contributing to their learning and success through mentoring.
- Review individual performance regularly and help build development action plans.
- Set high standards for yourself and others, and follow through on commitments.
- Maintain an approachable style and communicate effectively in both directions.
Performance and Execution
- Use tools such as MJSF (My Journey So Far handbook) to strengthen individual performance.
- Create new tools and simplify processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Track and report market activity so the brand remains competitive and current in store operations, sales efforts, and staff management.
- Adjust goals as the team changes, grows, and develops.
Communication and Relationships
- Handle minor store-level disagreements calmly and effectively.
- Influence others through collaboration rather than command-and-control methods.
- Present sales numbers clearly and explain action plans to close any gaps.
- Work continuously with the field team to generate ideas that improve business performance.
- Communicate ideas and information in a clear, professional manner.
- Build strong working relationships with team members and stakeholders, including external payroll partners.
- Develop trusted relationships with retailers and, where required, with mall operations teams.
- Foster a sense of belonging and keep field teams motivated and engaged.
Recruitment
- Recruit, onboard, develop, and retain field talent at all levels.
- Ensure every counter is staffed with the right people on time.
- Follow retailer-specific hiring rules and internal processes.
Education and Training
- Build a well-trained team through both on-site and off-site learning, with a focus on strong knowledge retention.
- Identify further development needs by using MJSF evaluations or similar tools with supervisors.
- Keep Benefit’s selling techniques consistently top of mind for the team.
- Maintain polished supervisors with advanced artistry and soft skills.
- Work closely with retailer education teams and maintain relationships built on trust and goodwill.
Operations
- Ensure POS systems and equipment such as computers, TVs, iPads, iPods, speakers, and CCTVs remain in working order by coordinating with store managers, vendors, and IT teams.
- Resolve operational issues promptly by escalating them to the appropriate teams at the right time based on supervisor inputs.
- Manage and refresh store uniforms so all staff align with global Benefit presentation standards.
- Replenish supplies and other store materials as needed.
Reporting
- Submit monthly business reports that highlight achievements and opportunities, and use them to seek guidance from the GM on handling challenges and action plans.
Qualifications
- A university degree or an equivalent academic qualification is required.
- At least 4 years of retail experience is needed.
- Candidates must be able to clear Benefit’s assessment center, including a presentation and analytical test.
- Experience managing field teams in multi-brand beauty retail environments such as Sephora, Tira, or Nykaa is preferred.
- A strong record of sales and customer service success is expected.
- English fluency is required in speaking, reading, and writing.
- Ability to read and interpret numbers confidently is important.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal ability is needed.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills are essential.
- Good computer proficiency is required, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- The role requires flexibility in working hours and the ability to travel 6 times a year or more.
