Role overview
Amentum is hiring a Safety Inspector to support a distinctive U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The position focuses on building and running a strong safety framework that aligns with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers standards, reduces workplace risk, and supports reliable operations in a demanding environment.
What you will do
- Design and put into practice a safety program that follows the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual.
- Carry out routine site inspections and compliance checks against safety rules, operating procedures, and location-specific requirements.
- Document inspection results, observations, corrective actions, and follow-up items in clear and detailed reports.
- Look into incidents, prepare accurate incident documentation, and suggest corrective measures to avoid repeat events.
- Update, adjust, add, or remove safety records for assets when needed so records stay correct and compliant.
- Perform hazard reviews and risk assessments, then implement controls to reduce risks to people and property.
- Observe work areas to confirm that required safety controls and equipment are being used properly and are functioning as intended.
- Support personnel through guidance, coaching, and training that strengthens safety awareness and procedure compliance.
- Keep all safety-related records organized, current, and compliant with internal and regulatory requirements.
- Work with supervisors, leadership, and contractors so safety objectives support broader operational goals.
Requirements
- Prior experience in safety inspections, safety program delivery, or a similar function, ideally in a government or military setting.
- Working knowledge of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual and other relevant safety standards.
- Ability to create and maintain detailed safety reports, incident logs, and asset safety documentation.
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Solid understanding of hazard identification, risk evaluation, and corrective action planning.
- Strong organizational and analytical ability, with careful attention to detail in documentation.
- Comfort using basic computer tools and safety record-keeping systems.
- Valid passport and the ability to travel internationally.
- Passport validity of at least one year at the time of hiring.
- Ability to meet contract medical requirements and remain compliant throughout deployment.
- Preferred: bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
- Preferred: safety certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Preferred: experience in austere OCONUS environments with multinational teams.
- Preferred: strong training and presentation capability, plus experience running safety awareness efforts.
- Preferred: good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
