Role summary

The Robot Technician is responsible for helping Martinrea meet internal and customer quality standards by identifying welding issues and contributing to corrective actions. The position focuses on supporting robotic welding processes, maintaining quality documentation, and assisting production and engineering teams with weld-related concerns.

Key responsibilities

This role covers day-to-day support for welding quality, robotic weld adjustments, record keeping, and cross-functional problem solving. The technician will also help with audits, training, and process verification activities as needed.

  • Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Assist WECs on both new and existing programs.
  • Help with buy-offs when needed.
  • Keep quarantined product organized and cleaned up.
  • Set, maintain, and apply welding parameters to support production and quality assurance.
  • Inspect welds, analyze weld data, and prepare reports.
  • Carry out robotic weld touch-ups as required.
  • Maintain and archive records in the Paxit system.
  • Help prepare PPAP packages when needed.
  • Stay current on customer product requirements and engineering specifications.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and root-cause activities.
  • Take part in product, system, and process audits when requested.
  • Help train production staff on quality requirements as needed.
  • Attend or lead quality meetings when requested.
  • Provide support to all departments on weld-related matters.
  • Cover for other technicians when they are absent.
  • Prepare and maintain weld setup instructions, weld inspection records, and weld length records.
  • Work effectively on your own and as part of a team.
  • Review and approve special material requests and reworked material when required.
  • Start and coordinate problem reports and containment actions.
  • Approve First-Off and Mid-Off processes and verify that setup checks are completed correctly.
  • Show urgency in meeting targets and following through on tasks, projects, PMRs, and CIPs.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education, specifically completion of a Robot Technologist or Robot Technician program from a community college or recognized college lasting two years or more.
  • Solid understanding of welding metallurgy.
  • Basic familiarity with non-destructive evaluation techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of GMAW, projection welding, and resistance welding.
  • Hands-on experience with manual GMAW.
  • Previous exposure to industrial robots.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
  • Willingness to work shifts and remain flexible, including overtime on short notice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and support a team-oriented environment.
  • Basic knowledge of ISO/TS 16949:2002 is an advantage.
  • Ability to use measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and height gauges.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Understanding of core skills and elementary GD&T.
  • Basic awareness of CMM.

Working conditions

The position is split between office and plant-floor work, with approximately 10% in the office and 90% on the plant floor. Personal protective equipment is required. Overtime may be necessary.

Health and safety

The technician must follow all health and safety laws, company rules, plant rules, policies, and procedures. Required protective equipment, devices, and clothing must be worn or used as directed. The department must remain clean, orderly, and safe at all times.

Compensation
