Role overview
This position sits within Google’s legal and regulatory affairs function, supporting responsible innovation and compliance across content-related matters. The role calls for practical legal judgment on emerging technology issues, close collaboration with internal teams, and proactive management of regulatory exposure in a fast-moving environment.
What you will do
- Translate legal and regulatory obligations into actionable requirements for Compliance, Business, Product, and Engineering teams.
- Advise on compliance policies and program design to help reduce legal and regulatory risk.
- Lead conversations with government bodies and regulators, including discussions, negotiations, and compliance-related disclosures.
Minimum qualifications
- Law degree (JD, LL.B., or an equivalent qualification), or comparable hands-on legal experience.
- At least 7 years of attorney-level practice in government, as in-house counsel, or at a law firm.
- Active bar admission or another form of authorization to practice law in the state where the role is based.
Preferred qualifications
- 10 years of experience in legal, regulatory, or corporate compliance work, with a focus on identifying, reducing, and preventing regulatory risk.
- Background working with regulators such as State Attorneys General, the FTC, the DOJ, and international data protection or consumer protection authorities.
- Experience building, reviewing, and maintaining compliance programs that align products with legal obligations and external commitments.
- Prior work with technology companies and the ability to understand complex technical subjects.
- Proven project management skills and experience collaborating across multiple functions.
- Experience working with public company boards, board counsel, special committees, or audit committees.

Google Legal deals with complex, high-impact questions at the intersection of law and technology. The team supports product innovation by offering thoughtful, proactive legal guidance and helping shape how information law evolves in response to new technologies.
Within Regulatory Affairs, the focus is on helping the company innovate responsibly and remain compliant with laws worldwide. The group works alongside Global Affairs, Product Areas, and other internal partners to build constructive relationships with governments and regulators while reducing risk.
As Regulatory Counsel, Content, you will contribute subject-matter expertise, engage with regulators, academics, and other stakeholders, interpret changing laws, coordinate with internal teams, and help communicate compliance positions externally.
