Role overview
Joseph Brant Hospital is hiring a Registered Practical Nurse for its Maternal & Child Acute Care Unit (MACU) in Burlington, Ontario. This is a regular part-time role at 0.2 FTE and it is covered by the PT Collective Agreement. The position reports under CUPE and involves varied shifts, including days, nights, evenings, weekends, and extended tours.

Key responsibilities
The role supports maternity and newborn care in a family-centred environment and requires strong clinical judgment, teamwork, and the ability to respond appropriately in urgent situations. The assignment may change depending on departmental needs.
Qualifications and clinical requirements
- Active registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.
- Recent Maternal & Child experience, ideally obtained within the last 2 years.
- Perinatal Certificate completed; candidates with courses currently in progress may also be considered.
- Breastfeeding course completed within the last 5 years; in-progress training may be accepted.
- Clear understanding of and interest in family-centred maternity care.
- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Proven effectiveness while working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Competence in aseptic technique, sterile dressing application, and suture/clip removal.
- Ability to manage IV therapy and perform vascular access-related tasks.
- Skill in female urinary catheterization.
- Ability to carry out oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal suctioning for adults and neonates.
- Experience with capillary blood collection and point-of-care testing for adults and neonates.
- Capability to complete physical assessments of postpartum mothers and newborns.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification; courses in progress may be considered.
- Current CPR certification at Basic Rescuer Level C.
- Working knowledge of College of Nurses standards.
- Strong commitment to quality, patient safety, and personal and coworker safety.
Schedule and pay
The posted hourly pay range is $37.15 to $39.02. Shifts may include days, nights, evenings, weekends, and extended tours. The position number is 242623-67.
