This role is a strong fit for an HR professional who enjoys attracting, welcoming, and helping retain great talent in an organization focused on mission and community impact. As the Recruiting and Onboarding Manager, you will help shape the employee journey by guiding hiring efforts, improving onboarding, and working closely with leaders across the business to support a healthy, scalable workforce.

The position is hybrid, combining office-based and remote work. You may also travel locally for hiring events, partnership activities, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and coordinate the organization’s recruitment and onboarding activities end to end.
  • Design, refine, and maintain hiring, orientation, and onboarding workflows.
  • Work with hiring managers to understand staffing requirements and build recruiting plans.
  • Draft, update, and manage job descriptions so they stay consistent and accurate.
  • Handle job postings, candidate sourcing, screening, and selection steps.
  • Represent the organization at job fairs, networking events, and community outreach programs.
  • Develop and sustain talent pipelines through schools, community groups, and recruiting partners.
  • Organize interviews, reference verification, and pre-employment activities.
  • Participate in workforce planning conversations with leadership to support growth and staffing needs.
  • Manage relationships with staffing agencies and outside recruitment vendors.
  • Support temporary staffing coordination and broader operational workforce needs across departments.
  • Oversee onboarding, employee status updates, role transitions, and offboarding processes.
  • Partner with HR leadership on engagement, retention, and workforce development efforts.
  • Help create and maintain internal communications and employee-facing resources.
  • Build and run internship and early-career talent initiatives.
  • Lead, coach, and support HR team members while contributing to department-wide projects.
  • Take on other related duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant professional experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in recruitment, onboarding, talent acquisition, or HR.
  • Hands-on experience managing full-cycle recruiting.
  • Working familiarity with applicant tracking systems and other recruiting tools.
  • Strong understanding of hiring best practices and candidate sourcing methods.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, social services, or similarly mission-driven setting.
  • Prior experience supervising others or leading a team.
  • Exposure to HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Experience with sourcing platforms such as LinkedIn Recruiter or similar tools.
  • Background in employee engagement, retention, or broader HR programs.

Core Strengths

  • Excellent people skills and relationship-building ability.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence across different levels of the organization.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and project management skills.
  • High attention to detail and a process-focused mindset.
  • Comfort juggling multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Professional judgment, discretion, and sound decision-making.
  • Creative, practical approach to recruiting and workforce planning.
  • Commitment to a positive, inclusive employee experience.
  • Ability to spot improvement opportunities and put effective solutions in place.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this role is between $73,000 and $85,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

  • Retirement savings plan with employer contribution
  • Generous paid vacation, sick leave, and holiday time
  • Opportunities for professional development and growth in a mission-driven environment
