Role Overview
The company is seeking a commercially minded and detail-focused QS & Costing Engineer for interior fit-out and turnkey construction projects in Bangalore. This position covers quantity surveying, estimation, budgeting, tender support, procurement assistance, vendor management, cost tracking, contract handling, and profitability monitoring. The role involves regular collaboration with project teams, vendors, subcontractors, and leadership to keep delivery aligned with budget, quality expectations, and deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Examine tender papers, drawings, technical specifications, and work scope to understand project requirements.
- Prepare BOQs, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates with accuracy.
- Assess tender conditions and flag commercial or contractual risks.
- Review quotations from vendors and subcontractors and compare them for value and compliance.
- Assist management with tender submissions, pricing discussions, and negotiations.
- Extract quantities from architectural, interior, and MEP drawings for pricing and budgeting.
- Carry out rate analysis using prevailing market prices.
- Build project budgets, estimates, and cost plans.
- Price variation claims and additional work items.
- Keep costing records and rate databases current.
- Track planned budgets against actual spend throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor ongoing project costs and highlight variances early.
- Prepare project-wise profitability statements and cost reviews.
- Support value engineering and cost-saving efforts.
- Create MIS updates and financial summaries for management.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Source materials and services competitively while preserving required quality levels.
- Invite quotations, prepare comparison statements, and recommend suitable vendors.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery timelines, and commercial terms.
- Coordinate with procurement and execution teams to ensure materials are available on time.
- Work within structured payment arrangements, including 45 to 60 day credit cycles.
- Prepare and manage work orders, purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and rate contracts.
- Track approvals, variations, claims, and contractual correspondence in proper order.
- Check subcontractor invoices and vendor bills for accuracy.
- Maintain contractual compliance and complete documentation during execution.
- Visit sites periodically for measurement checks and progress validation.
- Coordinate with site engineers, project managers, and vendors.
- Verify measurements and support client billing as well as subcontractor billing activities.
- Ensure cost data reflects actual site progress.
- Identify opportunities to reduce cost without affecting quality.
- Recommend alternate materials, methods, and sourcing approaches when suitable.
- Escalate budget risks, procurement issues, and possible overruns at an early stage.
- Support corrective actions recommended by management.
- Assist in proposal work, commercial submissions, and rate-building exercises.
- Participate in vendor development and market research initiatives.
- Help improve the organisation’s procurement and costing processes.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Construction Technology, or a similar field is preferred.
- Candidates with a diploma in Civil Engineering and strong hands-on experience in quantity surveying, estimation, and interior fit-out projects may also be considered.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in interior fit-out, corporate, retail, hospitality, healthcare, commercial, or turnkey construction work is required.
- At least 2 to 3 years of Bangalore-based experience and familiarity with local market rates, suppliers, subcontractors, and construction materials are expected.
- Solid knowledge of BOQ preparation, quantity take-offs, tendering, estimation, budgeting, and cost control is necessary.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Excel is mandatory.
- Exposure to ERP platforms, project costing software, or estimation tools will be an advantage.
- Working knowledge of SketchUp, V-Ray, MS Project, Zoho Projects, or similar applications will be preferred.
- Strong analytical ability, negotiation skills, communication, documentation, and commercial awareness are essential.
- The candidate should be able to manage several tasks at once and work independently against deadlines.
- Owning a two-wheeler or four-wheeler with a valid driving licence is compulsory for site and vendor travel.

Additional Information
