Role overview
This position is for a photovoltaic and solar electrical technician based in Shuaiba, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The primary purpose of the role is to help maintain safe, dependable, and efficient performance across utility-scale solar PV plants and associated substations, while working in line with Saudi electrical requirements and HSE rules.
Experience and qualifications
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in solar PV operations and maintenance.
- Practical exposure to robotic module cleaning equipment and PV tracking systems is required.
- A technical certificate or diploma in Electrical Engineering is needed.
- A valid electrical license is preferred, especially one that can be transferred to the Saudi Council of Engineers.
Preferred certifications
- Electrical Wireman License.
- First Aid certification, Fire Safety certification, and H2S certification.
- Training or certification in HV and EHV cable installation and testing.
- Knowledge of JSA, HIRA, and Permit to Work processes.
- Familiarity with the Saudi Electrical Code as well as SEC and NEOM standards.
Mandatory technical capabilities
- Strong working knowledge of utility-scale solar PV systems, including installation and O&M activities.
- Ability to work with inverters, SCBs, UPS systems, transformers, and switchgear.
- Experience using SCADA for monitoring and resolving DC field and communication faults.
- Capability to perform HT cable diagnostics such as Hipot, online PD, and IR testing.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and protection/control circuits.
- Experience troubleshooting CRP panels and related protection systems.
- Understanding of LOTO procedures and HSE requirements.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
- Strong record-keeping, reporting, and shift handover documentation skills for audits.
Preferred competencies
- Experience handling inventory and spare parts management.
- Background in commissioning work and adherence to SOPs, WMSRA, and risk assessments.
- Participation in hazard identification, toolbox talks, and safety drills.
- Working knowledge of Saudi Electrical Code and SEC/NEOM standards.
Core responsibilities
The role covers operations and maintenance, project support and commissioning, safety compliance, and coordination with teams and vendors.
Operations and maintenance
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance for PV modules, inverters, SCBs, UPS units, and transformers.
- Monitor SCADA systems and address alarms and field-related issues.
- Operate and maintain switchgear and protection systems within the 11kV to 220kV range.
- Perform IR testing and correct faults in HT and DC cable systems.
- Maintain robotic cleaning systems and solar tracking mechanisms.
Project execution and commissioning
- Assist with the erection, testing, and commissioning of transformers, HT/LT panels, and cables.
- Examine electrical drawings and work with QA/QC teams during inspections.
- Support commissioning activities in accordance with SEC and NEOM requirements.
Safety and compliance
- Apply LOTO and PTW procedures in line with Saudi Aramco, SEC, and NEOM HSE protocols.
- Run safety briefings, drills, and first-aid sessions.
- Keep documentation updated for internal and external audits.
Team and vendor coordination
- Oversee technical teams and ensure smooth, effective shift handovers.
- Liaise with contractors and suppliers to keep work moving on schedule.
