Job description
About the agency
Common Ground PR is a nimble boutique public relations agency in Auckland Central that focuses on helping ambitious brands stand out. The team works with everyone from multinational companies to emerging startups and premium consumer products, building communications that are strategic, memorable, and designed to shift momentum.
The agency is built on the belief that a strong story, delivered with care and creativity, can meaningfully influence a business’s future. Its work spans consumer PR, brand activations, corporate communications, reputation management, and broader strategy. The team describes itself as small but highly ambitious, with a sharp instinct for what makes news and an ability to create campaigns that spark conversation and deliver impact.
The opportunity
This role is suited to someone who enjoys the pace and variety of modern PR. You may be supporting companies working on everything from nuclear fusion to oat-based milk and water-based wine, so curiosity and adaptability matter. The team is looking for someone who genuinely follows the media, understands what makes a story land, and brings a distinctive public relations edge.
In this position, you will learn clients’ businesses in depth, shape media pitches, develop creative campaign ideas, and use data to build newsworthy angles and consumer-facing campaigns. Because the agency is small and expanding, the role can involve a wide range of work, from pitching and reporting to reputation management and support on international campaigns. The growth trajectory is strong, and the level of ownership will depend on whether you are hired at Account Manager or Senior Account Manager level; more experienced candidates will carry greater strategic responsibility and client ownership, with compensation reflecting that.

- Draft press releases and develop story ideas and angles
- Contribute to new business pitches and proposal development
- Create written content for communications and campaigns
- Support crisis communications when issues arise
- Assist with event planning and coordination
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in media, communications, or PR
- Strong writing ability, along with careful reading and comprehension skills
- Prior experience managing influencer relationships
- Confidence pitching stories by email, phone, and in-person where needed
- A steady, composed approach when working under pressure
- Well-developed sense of news value and editorial judgment
- Exposure to new business support and proposal work
- Ability to think quickly and craft sharp, engaging lines when needed
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- Professional, personable manner in client and team interactions
