Job description
About the organisation
Crosscare is the social care agency of the Dublin Diocese and operates as a registered charity. Its services are guided by a servant-leadership approach, and its Homeless, Youth, Information and Advocacy teams aim to support people in greatest need with compassion, respect and excellence.
The organisation exists to assist individuals and families when they are facing serious life challenges and struggling to access the help they need. Its focus is on stepping in at the point of greatest need, especially where other support options are not available.
Role location and working pattern
This position is based at Haven House in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. It is a full-time, on-site role of 38.5 hours per week on a 7-day rota, which includes evenings and weekends.
The contract is fixed term for 12 months. Reporting will be to the Deputy Project/Project Leader.
About the role
The Project Worker will play an essential part in a 24-hour short-term residential service supporting adult men and women experiencing homelessness. The aim is to help residents move toward long-term housing while ensuring they have the supports, practical resources, and personal strengths needed to maintain accommodation successfully.
The service works closely with colleagues involved in care planning and case management and operates in line with the DRHE Pathways Model. The environment can be demanding, as the team supports people with complex needs and works to provide an inclusive, person-centred service.
Key duties
- Put the case management system into practice and manage a one-to-one caseload from referral through to disengagement.
- Carry out HNA assessments, build and deliver detailed support plans, and keep the PASS system updated.
- Advocate for service users, organise meetings, connect them with appropriate services, and support them in securing long-term housing.
- Develop professional, trusting relationships with residents while treating them with dignity and reflecting Crosscare’s values.
- Carry out the day-to-day responsibilities of a residential service, including conflict resolution, responding to health-related issues, taking referrals, welcoming residents, and supporting premises management.
- Liaise and advocate with a wide range of external agencies as well as internal teams.
- Work effectively within a team and respond reasonably to requests from the Project Leader or Deputy to support smooth service delivery.
- Follow Crosscare policies and the project’s standard operating procedures at all times.
- Contribute to quality improvement efforts to maintain consistent service delivery and uphold quality standards.
- Complete the administrative duties associated with the post so the project runs efficiently.
- Follow all health and safety requirements and support ongoing quality improvements to protect the security of the building at all times, day and night.
Requirements and experience
Applicants should have experience in homeless services, addiction services, residential services, community work, and/or youth work.
A minimum of one year’s relevant work experience with a similar client group is required. For internal candidates, at least six months of relevant experience with a similar client group is sufficient.
Because of the nature of the post, the successful candidate must be able to complete physically demanding tasks, including using stairs in a multi-level building, and be willing to carry out first aid, CPR, and administration of life-saving medication such as Naloxone.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification routes:
- A BA degree in Applied Social Care, Addiction, Mental Health, Nursing, Psychology, or an equivalent Level 7 qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) / QQI.
