Job description
Role overview
This position sits within a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing policy, planning, and program administration for initiatives that strengthen social inclusion and community participation. The work includes support for the Neighbourhood House Coordination Program, Men's Shed Funding Program, and other place-based social infrastructure programs and projects.
The role also contributes to implementation of the Victorian Volunteer Strategy, supporting efforts to grow and strengthen volunteering across Victoria.
In a broader sense, the position is part of the Community Inclusion, Carers and Volunteers Unit and supports key government priorities within the Carers and Volunteers portfolio.
Reporting and work environment
Reporting to the Senior Policy and Project Officer, Social Inclusion, this role operates in a complex and fast-moving setting. Success in the role depends on strong project and program management capability, the ability to build and sustain productive relationships with government and community stakeholders, and an understanding of how to apply self-determination, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles to policy and program design.
Key focus areas
The role helps shape sound policy and program improvement options, as well as government business materials such as briefings, reports, and submissions. It therefore requires strong analytical thinking, clear written communication, the confidence to learn new subject matter quickly, and a proactive, innovative approach.
Accountabilities
- Partner with colleagues to develop, manage, review, and evaluate policies, programs, and projects, including identifying risks, reducing them where possible, and preparing practical, evidence-based improvement options.
- Lead or support projects through the full lifecycle, covering planning, risk management, budget tracking, contract oversight, stakeholder coordination, monitoring, and progress reporting.
- Assist with the delivery of broader unit, branch, and division initiatives, and provide advice on social inclusion matters across government projects, policies, programs, processes, and systems.
Application and screening
Applicants should submit a CV and a cover letter of no more than 2 pages that explains their suitability for the role against the key selection criteria. Eligible applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid work permit or visa. Work eligibility will be verified during recruitment. The preferred candidate will need to complete pre-employment checks, including a national police check and misconduct screening.
