Job description

Position Summary

This role is responsible for coordinating and guiding assigned construction, landscape, architectural, mechanical, electrical, or affordable housing projects from planning through design and delivery. The position supports major project development by handling administrative, professional, and technical work while helping put program objectives into action.

Primary Duties

  • Manage and coordinate assigned project work, including design, planning, scheduling, oversight, and overall delivery.
  • Track project progress and evaluate contractor performance against scope, budget, service expectations, feasibility, and project goals; recommend process or procedural improvements when needed.
  • Help gather technical information for major capital improvement planning, including facilities, parks, structures, and systems; conduct research, analyze findings, and prepare cost studies and alternate design options where appropriate.
  • Serve as project manager on assigned efforts; complete site visits and construction inspections as needed; and contribute as a technical advisor on projects led by other departments.
  • Coordinate and organize work activities for infrastructure and other related programs.
  • Support goal setting and objective implementation by establishing coordination methods, schedules, and procedures.
  • Plan and oversee design review activities and evaluate different approaches to meeting project targets.
  • Meet with civic, business, government, or community members to explain policies, plans, and procedures connected to assigned projects.
  • Lead or support technical and public meetings, act as a point of contact for citizen advisory groups, and collaborate with other agencies and departments as needed.
  • Assist with consultant selection for various projects.
  • Review project financial documents and help recommend billing and payment procedures.
  • Coordinate and review comments on current planning matters raised by other departments or agencies.
  • Assist with preparing and administering the budget for assigned work, including budget recommendations and monitoring spending.
  • Prepare status updates and reports for projects and programs.
  • May help hire, supervise, and evaluate lower-level staff; arrange training; address performance concerns; and carry out discipline or termination procedures when required.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure assigned projects and services comply with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Carry out other related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, landscape architecture, architectural design, planning, or business administration is required, along with four years of directly related project management, implementation, and coordination experience. Two of those years must include lead or supervisory experience.

Licensing and Other Requirements

Applicants must have a New Mexico driver's license or be able to obtain one by the hire date. A City Operators Permit (COP) must also be obtained within six months of employment.

Working Conditions

This position involves both office and field settings. Work may include traveling between sites, exposure to computer screens and severe weather, inspecting confined spaces, and working closely with others. The job may also require prolonged walking, standing, or sitting, light lifting or carrying, and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
