Job description

About the Company

SpryPoint is a fast-growing software company focused on transforming how utility providers serve their communities. The company offers the first cloud-native customer service and operations platform built specifically for modern utilities, helping replace outdated legacy systems with a more flexible, customer-focused approach.

Established in 2011 by industry veterans, SpryPoint has evolved from a profitable startup into a 300+ person organization supporting more than 100 utility customers across North America and the Caribbean. Its experience spans successful implementations for water, electric, and gas utilities, and it is known as a dependable partner for mission-critical utility operations.

The company’s product suite includes SpryCIS, SpryEngage, SpryMobile, and SpryWallet, covering the meter-to-cash lifecycle. Its product philosophy emphasizes iterative improvement, user-focused design, and strong customer outcomes. SpryPoint highlights values such as kindness, impact, honesty, bold thinking, simplicity, and execution excellence.

Recognition mentioned in the posting includes being a 2025 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Canada recipient and a Fast 500 North America recipient. The company also notes backing from Norwest Venture Partners since 2023 and a new investment partnership with Insight Partners announced in 2026.

Role Summary

The Product Owner II — Project Alignment role sits at the intersection of Product Ownership and Project Management. It is designed as a balanced position with roughly half the time spent supporting Project Managers and half spent acting as the go-to source for project status, priorities, and product-related updates. The aim is to improve communication, reduce friction, and keep product and delivery teams aligned.

In this role, you work with Project Managers, Product Owners, Solutions Architects, Sales, Proposals, and clients to surface issues, translate concerns across teams, and help drive practical resolutions. You also have the authority to challenge unrealistic commitments and suggest workable alternatives.

Key Responsibilities

Product Owner support focus:

  • Act as the product-side voice that ensures delivery concerns raised by Project Managers are heard, understood, and handled by the product and development organizations.
  • Regularly collect open blockers, issues, and escalations from Project Managers.
  • Recast delivery problems into product-oriented language so Product Owners can make timely decisions.
  • Follow translated issues through to resolution and report back once action has been taken.
  • Spot recurring patterns rather than isolated incidents and present systemic themes to the Group Product Manager with a recommended next step.

Project Manager support focus:

  • Work alongside Project Managers as a product-literate support partner, bringing development context and delivery awareness to identify risk early.
  • Communicate risks in practical terms, along with suggested actions the Project Manager can use.
  • Escalate any risks that need Product Owner awareness before work moves ahead.
  • Monitor repeated risk themes and help improve processes so they occur less often.
  • Partner with Sales, Solutions Architects, and clients to help move issues toward resolution.

What the Role Does Not Include

  • You will not lead sprint ceremonies or manage a delivery team backlog; that belongs to Delivery Product Owners.
  • You will not own the SpryCIS roadmap or sit in the core product strategy seat.
  • You will not own RFP responses from start to finish; your role is to contribute rather than orchestrate.
  • You will not handle customer success or post-go-live escalations.
  • You will not be responsible for end-to-end Project Manager workflows, timelines, or delivery accountability.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should bring at least 3 years of experience as a Product Owner, Project Manager, or in a comparable role such as a BA with PO responsibilities, Solution Consultant, or Technical Product Manager, ideally in a B2B environment and with direct exposure to project documentation and development teams.

The role requires comfort working across both product and project management settings, with the ability to operate credibly in either context. The ideal background may include PMs with product-adjacent work, POs who have supported customer implementations, BAs or Implementation Consultants who have worked between teams, or current POs/PMs expanding into cross-functional coordination.

Additional expectations include strong estimation judgment, the ability to distinguish rough-order-of-magnitude estimates from committed estimates and defend them when needed, plus solid stakeholder management skills that help align business and technical audiences. You should be comfortable working through ambiguity, turning unclear scope into clarity, identifying risks in ways that prompt action, and using Jira, Confluence, and modern AI tools as part of your workflow.

Preferred Experience

Experience with utility Customer Information Systems, utility billing, meter-to-cash operations, customer self-service portals, or mobile field tools is strongly preferred. It is also an advantage to have supported Project Managers in a bridge or coordination capacity by helping them prepare artefacts, surface risks, and communicate with both product and project stakeholders.

Who This Role Fits Best

This position is well suited to a generalist who enjoys switching between product-facing and project-support conversations. It will appeal to someone who finds that context-switching energizing, who likes helping Project Managers succeed through transparency and risk mitigation, and who is comfortable having difficult conversations early rather than later.

Who This Role May Not Suit

This position may not be the best fit if you want full ownership of a product roadmap or end-to-end projects, prefer the routine of backlog and sprint management, want to avoid client-facing or sales-driven collaboration, or need highly predictable and low-pressure work cycles.

Career Growth

The role is designed to build uncommon expertise at the overlap of product ownership and project delivery. Potential growth paths within SpryPoint include leadership in delivery teams, Solution Design leadership, and senior product roles in related areas.

Benefits and Perks

  • Remote-first work model with flexible hours across North America and hub offices in Charlottetown and Atlanta.
  • Competitive total compensation package.
  • MacBook provided, plus $800 to set up a preferred home workspace.
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance starting from day one.
  • Generous paid time off and unlimited sick days.
  • RRSP matching in Canada and 401(k) matching in the US.
  • $2,500 annual learning and development fund, tuition support, and a Book Bounty program.
  • Annual company events and team offsites.

Additional Information

The company uses an AI notetaker during interviews and asks candidates to opt in through a consent form if they are comfortable being recorded. Participation is optional.

If accommodations are needed during the interview process, the company invites candidates to request support.

SpryPoint states that it is an equal-opportunity employer and encourages applications from qualified candidates of all backgrounds, including those protected by applicable laws related to race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, medical condition, genetic characteristics, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy, and other protected classes.

Work Environment

The role is remote and supports flexible working across North America. The job is based in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, with additional hub offices in Charlottetown and Atlanta mentioned in the posting.
