About the role
This position offers the chance to shape products that support safety across Aotearoa while contributing directly to commercial growth. As Principal Product Manager, you will own the strategic direction and execution of a product portfolio, turning broader business goals into a practical roadmap centered on outcomes.
You will collaborate across customer groups, design, engineering, and senior leadership to improve products, sequence priorities across the organisation, and deliver experiences that create meaningful value for both users and the business.
What you will do
- Convert MetService’s vision and strategic direction into a product strategy tailored to your area of responsibility.
- Partner closely with customers to shape product experiences that respond to real needs and deliver strong value.
- Set the example for the organisation by encouraging a customer-value mindset and coaching others to adopt it.
About you
- You bring substantial experience in senior product management positions.
- You enjoy supporting the development of product managers through coaching or mentoring.
- You are recognised for strong communication skills and effective stakeholder engagement.

Organisational update
In January 2025, the Government announced plans to reshape the New Zealand science system, including the establishment of new Public Research Organisations. As part of that change, MetService and Earth Sciences will be brought together, with Earth Sciences acquiring MetService as a wholly owned subsidiary. MetService will continue in its role as New Zealand's authorised meteorological voice, supporting the future weather, climate, and related impacts forecasting system for New Zealand.
