Job description
Role Overview
This position sits within Qualcomm’s Hardware Engineering group and focuses on architecting next-generation AI data center and accelerator platforms. The role is aimed at a senior technical leader who can shape system architecture, guide customer solution design, and influence product direction for large-scale AI inference and training environments.
You will work across silicon, systems, and software to ensure platforms are technically strong, deployable at scale, and aligned with demanding customer workloads. The position operates at a Principal level and calls for deep experience across hardware platforms, data center systems, and customer-facing architecture work.
Key Responsibilities
- Own system-level architecture and design for AI data center platforms, including accelerators, host systems, memory, networking, storage, and rack-scale deployments.
- Act as a senior technical consultant for strategic customers by leading discovery sessions, shaping architectures, and developing end-to-end solutions for pre-sales and post-sales situations.
- Convert customer and workload needs into clear engineering and architecture specifications.
- Partner with silicon, platform, and software teams to drive hardware-software co-design from early concept through bring-up, validation, and launch.
- Create reference architectures for AI inference and training systems across scale-up, scale-out, and rack-scale setups.
- Evaluate compute, memory, interconnect, and storage performance to pinpoint bottlenecks and recommend optimization approaches.
- Advise on high-density AI deployments with attention to power, thermal, reliability, and serviceability factors.
- Work with product management to influence platform and silicon roadmaps using customer feedback, performance findings, and ecosystem knowledge.
- Support customer pilots, proofs of concept, and escalations for complex multi-component AI systems.
- Represent Qualcomm in technical reviews, executive-level meetings, and architecture workshops with customers and partners.
- Lead technical enablement through solution workshops, internal training, and platform advocacy.
- Prepare and review architecture documents, reference designs, performance analyses, and application notes.
- Track emerging developments in AI infrastructure, accelerator systems, distributed AI, and data center architecture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- At least 15 years of experience spanning AI hardware platforms or accelerators, data center or cloud systems, and customer solutions engineering or system architecture.
- Strong understanding of AI accelerators, CPUs, memory hierarchy, and high-speed interconnects at the system level.
- Proven experience with rack-scale and cluster-scale AI system design or enablement.
- Practical experience with Linux-based systems, low-level software, drivers, and system bring-up.
- Background in benchmarking, workload analysis, and performance optimization.
- Ability to connect engineering depth with customer needs and product priorities.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and executive audiences.
- Willingness to travel for customer meetings and strategic reviews.
- Preferred background includes work at Senior Staff, Principal, or Distinguished technical level.
- Preferred experience in customer enablement, solutions architecture, or technical product strategy.
- Preferred exposure to roadmap influence based on customer insights.
- Preferred knowledge of inference-optimized, latency-sensitive, or cost-optimized AI systems.
- Preferred familiarity with distributed AI, cloud-to-edge architectures, and heterogeneous compute systems.
- Preferred record of cross-functional leadership and mentoring senior engineers.
Perks and Benefits
- Compensation package that includes housing and transport allowance.
- Stock awards in the form of RSUs plus a performance-linked bonus.
- 16 weeks of fully paid maternity leave.
- 6 weeks of fully paid paternity leave.
- Employee stock purchase plan.
- Child education allowance.
- Relocation and immigration support, where required.
- Life and medical insurance coverage.
- Live+ Well reimbursement for health and recreation membership fees.
Additional Information
