Role overview
GE Vernova is hiring a Power Plant Operations Technician for its Field Services team in Shannonbridge, County Offaly, Ireland. This is a permanent onsite position focused on keeping the power station safe, dependable, and compliant while supporting day-to-day generation and responding quickly to changing grid needs.

What the role involves
The technician will help maintain continuous plant operation by monitoring turbine systems and other Balance of Plant equipment, performing frontline maintenance support, and assisting with controlled plant release for scheduled work. The position requires coordination across the field, Permit Office, and Central Control Room, with a strong emphasis on safety, compliance, and effective communication with the Team Leader and maintenance teams.
Key duties
- Run and monitor station control systems, including DCS, HMI, CEMS, and related plant controls, to support safe and efficient performance.
- Follow Quality, EHS, and operational procedures to maintain full compliance and minimize risk.
- Spot abnormal operating conditions, take corrective action from the control room or field, and keep the plant aligned with PPA and grid requirements.
- Carry out field rounds, support routine equipment upkeep, and assist with testing to protect reliability.
- Work with grid and station leadership by following dispatch instructions, escalating issues to the Shift Supervisor, and maintaining accurate logs, schedules, and operational records.
- After training, help with LOTO and plant release activities so maintenance can be carried out safely.
- Identify unsafe conditions, equipment problems, and operational risks, then report them promptly to protect people and assets.
Working pattern and special requirements
The position follows 12-hour shifts and may require work on holidays, weekends, and nights depending on the rota.

Success in the role also calls for strong problem-solving ability, confidence in managing complex plant systems, an understanding of how turbines and Balance of Plant equipment support stable generation, and solid communication with colleagues, supervisors, and grid operators.
