Job description

About the Organisation

DA Hall Group is a privately owned agribusiness operating one of Australia’s largest poultry farming businesses. The company has more than 350 team members across its Millmerran operations, located about an hour west of Toowoomba in Queensland. Its vertically integrated business covers chick rearing, grain production, stock feed milling, egg grading, and poultry production. The layer systems include cage, cage-free, free range, and organic, and the business also has in-house teams supporting bird vaccination, bird relocation, veterinary care, and nutrition services.

The organisation is guided by a mission to produce affordable, high-quality eggs from well-cared-for hens in a socially responsible way, backed by a skilled, purpose-driven, and innovative team. Its values are responsibility, integrity, generosity, humility, trust, and loyalty.

This role suits someone seeking stable, long-term work in a relaxed rural setting in the Darling Downs, with scope for development and possible progression for the right person.

About the Role

You will work as part of an established production team, moving quickly and accurately to help maintain bird welfare during catching and vaccination activities. The roster is irregular and typically involves 60 to 80 hours per fortnight. Shifts start very early, generally between 2:00 am and 6:00 am, and runs are usually 7 to 8 hours long. Work is commonly Monday to Friday, although occasional Saturday shifts and other weekend work may be required.

Key Duties

  • Catch, identify, and vaccinate birds safely and efficiently according to agreed work procedures.
  • Load and unload birds carefully and efficiently.
  • Clean and sanitise vaccination equipment.
  • Work across different intensive livestock environments as part of the broader operation.
  • Keep the work area clean, organised, and tidy.
  • Carry out additional tasks when required, such as pullet shifts, shed cleaning, or gardening.

What You’ll Bring

You should be physically capable of demanding farm work and able to handle tasks that involve heavy lifting, stooping, reaching, climbing ladders, and pushing trolleys. The job calls for speed, accuracy, and care in a busy, time-sensitive setting, along with the patience to repeat tasks while maintaining quality.

You’ll need your own transport and must be able to travel to multiple farm sites within 20 km of Millmerran. A cooperative attitude, accountability, clear communication, and strong attention to detail are important for success in this role.

Additional Requirements

A real interest in agriculture and rural work is essential, along with reasonable literacy and numeracy skills. No prior bird-handling experience is needed, but you must be comfortable working directly with live birds.

Strict biosecurity rules apply across all sites. These include showering and changing into site-specific clothing and footwear before entry. Jewellery is not permitted on site, except for medical ID jewellery. You must also be willing to avoid keeping live birds, chickens, or pigs at home, and sign a biosecurity agreement confirming no contact with avian species such as birds, chickens, ducks, and turkeys.

The work may involve dirty or dusty conditions, as well as outdoor work in all weather.

Relocation Support

If you are not local and are successful in securing the position, financial assistance may be available to help with relocation costs.

Working Conditions

This is a part-time onsite role based in Millmerran, Queensland. The work environment is rural and fast-paced, with early starts and physically active duties.

Growth and Stability

The business offers a stable employment environment, a chance to join high-performing teams, and the opportunity to grow within a expanding agribusiness.
