Job description
Role Overview
This position supports the state government’s internal mail and messenger operations. As an entry-level Postal Technician I, you will receive direction, coaching, and training while helping deliver centralized support services to agencies across state government.
The office is based in Frankfort, Kentucky, with parking located close to the building. The role includes flexible scheduling, on-the-job training, and monthly vacation and sick leave.
Compensation and Employment Details
Pay grade: 10
Monthly salary range: $2,623.40 to $3,935.20
Employment classification: Executive Branch | Full Time | Eligible for Overtime Pay | 18A | 40.0 hours per week

Responsibilities
- Carry out postal processing duties under general supervision within the Messenger Section.
- Sort and distribute mail to state agencies in Frankfort.
- Run outgoing mail through a postage meter and take processed mail to the United States Post Office.
- Keep the work area clean and safe.
- Operate a state-owned vehicle as part of daily duties.
- Handle additional assignments as directed by management.
- Be available for overtime when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma is required. No prior experience, training, or specific skills are needed for consideration, and there are no substitutions allowed for education or experience.
Special requirements include holding a valid driver’s license and maintaining any required licenses, certifications, or credentials for the full duration of employment. The hiring agency is responsible for ensuring these requirements remain current.
Working Conditions and Other Information
This job involves daily travel to pick up and deliver mail.
There is an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except where KRS 18A.111 provides otherwise.
