Role overview
This is a permanent part-time porter and waste porter position within George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust in Nuneaton, England. The role works 37.5 hours per week on a rotating pattern of 10:00 am to 10:00 pm for four days followed by four days off.
The salary is £25,272 per year.

What the job involves
- Providing porter support across wards and departments.
- Moving patients using wheelchairs, beds, or trolleys.
- Delivering food trolleys, food boxes, and food items.
- Carrying specimens and blood samples to pathology and other clinical areas.
- Collecting prescriptions and drug books from wards and departments and taking them to Pharmacy.
- Handling medical gas cylinders when requested.
- Responding to fire calls.
- Assisting during cardiac arrest situations.
- Transporting records, X-rays, furniture, equipment, and other materials.
- Supporting mortuary work when needed, including viewings and BID's.
- Reporting suspicious incidents and helping where required.
- Providing support for low-level security requests when needed.
- Covering post room duties, including sorting incoming and outgoing mail and distributing it to wards and departments.
- Collecting general clinical waste, cytotoxic waste, and sharps bins from site areas when required.
- Using communication devices to stay in contact with team members.
- Attending all mandatory training and refresher sessions.
- Handling deceased patients with dignity and respect during transfer from wards.
Training and mandatory sessions
Attendance is required for training sessions covering moving and handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire safety, conflict management, and safe handling of medical gases. Training also includes safe handling of liquid nitrogen.
