Job description

Role overview

This position is for an experienced PMO Consultant to support the delivery of important programmes across the UK public sector. The role is suited to someone who has worked in government settings and is confident operating in complex delivery environments with strong governance, planning, reporting, and control practices.

The organisation is developing its PMO capability from the ground up, offering an opportunity to help shape how the function operates, contribute to a growing team, and support programmes spanning multiple government departments.

What you will do

  • Help put PMO governance arrangements and delivery standards into practice and keep them running effectively.
  • Keep programme schedules up to date, including key milestones, dependencies, and timelines.
  • Maintain RAID logs and work with teams to drive mitigation and follow-up actions.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely reports, dashboards, and management information.
  • Support programme and project teams with planning, progress tracking, and delivery assurance.
  • Arrange and support governance forums, steering meetings, and action tracking.
  • Track programme performance against agreed goals, schedules, and budgets.
  • Make sure work aligns with internal governance rules and public sector delivery expectations.
  • Coordinate change requests, approvals, and related documentation.
  • Assist with audits, assurance reviews, and similar activities when needed.

Experience and background

You should bring prior PMO experience gained in a government department, public sector body, or a programme funded by government. The role calls for a solid grasp of programme governance, controls, reporting, and assurance processes, along with hands-on experience supporting transformation, digital, business change, or technology programmes.

Experience handling RAID logs, producing programme reports, and managing governance documentation is important, as is the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at different levels. Strong organisational ability, analytical thinking, and confident communication are also essential.

What the role suits

The ideal person is proactive, able to build trust quickly, and comfortable bringing structure to complicated programmes. You should be able to offer practical support to delivery teams, stay effective in fast-moving environments, manage competing priorities, and work well with a wide range of stakeholders.

How to apply

Applicants should share a CV that highlights their PMO experience and relevant delivery work within government or public sector programmes.
