About the role
Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking an energetic Band 6 Play Therapist to become part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team. In this post, you will offer therapeutic and emotional care to children and young people referred through the Zig Zag Children and Young People’s Service, with work taking place in both hospital-based and community environments.
What you will do
- Provide one-to-one play therapy sessions and support for bereaved children and young people.
- Run support groups for families.
- Work in partnership with schools, GPs, social services, CAMHS, and other healthcare professionals.
- Support children and young people who are under Specialist Palliative Care and Paediatric Oncology services.
- Take part in teaching, audit activity, research, and wider service improvement.
Service context
You will be based within the Margaret Centre multidisciplinary team and will deliver play therapy for children and young people referred to the Zig Zag Children and Young People’s Service from Whipps Cross University Hospital and the surrounding community. The role also includes providing appropriate psychological support to children, young people, and families receiving care from the Specialist Palliative Care Team and Paediatric Oncology.
As part of the post, you will liaise with local schools to help promote education around death and bereavement, and you will coordinate with external services such as Social Services and GPs.
