Job description
About the role
The National Fire Ant Eradication Program is working to eliminate one of Australia’s most damaging invasive pests. This role supports that effort by strengthening the program’s planning, analysis, and risk-management capability, helping protect Queensland communities, environments, homes, wildlife, and industries.
What you’ll do
As a Planning Support Officer, you will contribute to both strategic and day-to-day planning across the program. Your work will focus on turning data into practical insights, helping shape program direction, and supporting operational decisions that improve delivery outcomes.
- Gather and examine information to prepare reports and recommendations that support planning, progress tracking, and decision-making.
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and sharing strategies for treatment, surveillance, and other operational activities.
- Help identify, assess, and track current and emerging risks so program goals remain on course.
- Document and maintain program strategies to provide clear guidance for staff and operational teams.
- Research new approaches for managing fresh infestations and technical issues, and use that insight to improve planning and risk analysis.
- Use practical knowledge of ArcGIS/ArcPro and scheduling tools to work with spatial data, support risk reviews, and improve planning and scheduling processes.
