Role Overview
This is a permanent full-time Band 6 role with Melton City Council in Melton, Victoria. The salary range is AUD 97,926 to AUD 106,637 per year, plus 12% superannuation and ADO. The exact salary offered will reflect the successful candidate’s skills and experience.

The Opportunity
An opening exists within the City Growth and Development department for an experienced and self-driven Planning Enforcement Officer. The position plays an important part in supporting compliance and public safety across a rapidly expanding municipality. The work covers a broad range of enforcement matters, including residential, industrial, greenfield subdivision and other planning scenarios. You will work with a supportive team and collaborate across multiple parts of Council to maintain a consistent approach to planning compliance.
Key Duties
- Examine planning complaints promptly and carry out site inspections to assess compliance with planning permit conditions, the Melton City Council Planning Scheme and applicable legislation.
- Deliver specialist technical assistance and support for assigned tasks and projects in consultation with colleagues.
- Provide expert guidance to the planning team and other internal teams on enforcement matters.
- Prepare material for Magistrates Court submissions or VCAT proceedings when required.
- Draft, review and refresh reports, records and correspondence as needed.
About You
To be effective in this role, you should bring relevant tertiary study combined with practical experience in planning, law enforcement or local government enforcement, or alternatively substantial hands-on experience in local law enforcement without a formal qualification. You should have worked in investigation and enforcement settings and understand the statutory town planning process.
You will need to show that you can work independently, manage your time well, prioritise tasks and deliver outcomes. Experience in assessing a range of planning investigation and enforcement issues, following matters through and taking suitable action is essential. A willingness to support process improvement within the team is also important. A current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence is required.
