Job description

Role overview

ASB is dedicated to supporting customers' financial wellbeing, and it relies on dependable, well-governed people systems to create great experiences for employees and help deliver business strategy.

This role is an enterprise leadership position responsible for the full People Systems landscape. You will set the direction for the function, drive measurable outcomes, and ensure the technology remains effective and sustainable as the organisation changes.

Based in Auckland, this is a permanent position.

What you'll do

  • Take end-to-end ownership of the people systems domain across the employee lifecycle with accountability at an enterprise level.
  • Shape how people systems are designed, improved and maintained so they continue to meet organisational needs.
  • Guide and coordinate the People Systems Specialist and Analyst roles to deliver aligned outcomes.
  • Own the quality of delivery, user experience and governance for all systems changes.
  • Establish and maintain design principles and governance standards for people systems.
  • Oversee system health, lifecycle planning and the long-term viability of the platform environment.
  • Convert people strategy into system roadmaps, prioritised investment choices and clear delivery direction.
  • Assess and manage risk, dependencies and technical debt across the enterprise.
  • Work closely with senior Technology and Delivery leaders to ensure integrated, high-quality outcomes.

What you'll bring

  • Hands-on experience leading people systems at an enterprise scale, such as ServiceNow HRSD, SnapHire, Cornerstone LMS, SAP SuccessFactors or comparable platforms.
  • A solid grasp of system architecture, integrations and how changes affect the wider end-to-end environment.
  • Experience working in complex settings where governance, controls and risk management are essential.
  • Ability to turn business strategy into system strategy, delivery roadmaps and investment decisions.
  • Proven capability leading cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders across different functions.
  • Sound judgment and confidence when making decisions in uncertain, high-impact situations.
  • Strong relationship management skills across People, Technology and Delivery teams.
  • Ability to strengthen organisational capability and reduce dependence on informal knowledge or workaround processes.

Why join ASB

  • Work in a culture that reflects Care, Courage and Curiosity.
  • Contribute to building scalable, well-governed and future-ready systems.
  • Operate at the intersection of People, Technology and Strategy.
  • Support continuous improvement and smarter ways of working.
