Job description

About Fay

Fay is on a mission to make nutrition a core part of preventive care, improving health outcomes while making care more accessible and affordable. The company is developing AI-enabled infrastructure to reshape preventive healthcare.

Fay operates as a three-sided marketplace that brings together providers, patients, and payers to modernize how preventive care is delivered. Its business-in-a-box platform helps dietitians provide high-quality nutrition care at a lower cost, supports patients in taking charge of their health, and gives payers a way to foster healthier member populations. Nutrition is the starting point, with the platform expected to broaden into additional areas of preventive health and wellness over time.

The company is among the fastest-growing businesses in healthtech and is supported by investors including General Catalyst, Forerunner, 1984, and Goldman Sachs.

About the Role

This role is part of the founding People Team and reports to the People leader. It is focused on the day-to-day people operations work that keeps the team running smoothly and helps employees have a strong experience. The role supports a growing, fast-moving organization and plays a key part in building the People function from the ground up.

This is an individual contributor position suited to someone who is highly organized, detail-focused, and energized by being a dependable resource for employees. The right person will be comfortable managing several priorities at once, bringing structure to ambiguity, and helping create a positive employee experience.

Employee Support and Experience

  • Act as a primary contact for employee questions about benefits, policies, and general People topics across NYC, SF, and remote teams.
  • Support culture and engagement efforts such as events, recognition programs, and internal communications.
  • Help maintain a smooth and well-organized experience for employees across key touchpoints.

HR Operations and Process Development

  • Manage core People Operations administration, including payroll coordination, benefits enrollment, leave tracking, and HRIS data accuracy.
  • Spot process gaps or inefficiencies and help create practical, scalable improvements.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, playbooks, and internal FAQs that bring consistency as the company scales.

Onboarding and Employee Lifecycle

  • Coordinate and improve the new hire onboarding experience from offer acceptance through the first 90 days.
  • Handle offboarding tasks, including exit logistics, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
  • Work closely with managers and leaders to support performance processes, organizational changes, and broader team needs.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Assist with compliance requirements tied to employment laws and regulations across multiple states.
  • Prepare reports and track People Operations metrics such as headcount and time-to-hire.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in People Operations, HR, or a related function, preferably at a startup or fast-growing company.
  • Strong organizational skills with careful attention to detail and reliable follow-through.
  • Comfort using HRIS tools and other People Operations systems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with a helpful, service-oriented approach.
  • Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work well in fast-paced settings where priorities can change quickly and processes are still evolving.
  • Based in NYC or SF and available to work in-office on a hybrid schedule.

Preferred Background

These are not required, but would be helpful differentiators:

  • Experience with benefits administration, leave management, or basic employment compliance.
  • Familiarity with HRIS and payroll platforms such as Rippling, Greenhouse, or Gem.
  • Background in healthcare, marketplace, or operations-intensive environments.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is USD 100,000 to USD 130,000 annually.

Equal Opportunity

Fay is an equal opportunity employer and values a diverse, inclusive workplace for all employees.
