About the role
EllisDon is looking for a Payroll Supervisor focused on salary payroll operations in London, Ontario. This is an in-office role supporting a large payroll function that handles complex, multi-province payroll activity across Canada, including Quebec. What you will do
- Support the day-to-day work of the payroll team, with primary responsibility for salary payroll and some involvement with hourly payroll.
- Oversee the salaried payroll population, which includes about 3,500 employees.
- Lead and supervise 3 direct reports as part of a larger payroll department.
- Handle payroll-related leave processing, including maternity and parental leaves, as well as more complex termination cases.
- Administer payroll for varied employee groups using multiple systems and different pay schedules across several Canadian provinces.
- Complete statutory filings, remittances, and related reporting.
- Support periodic and year-end income tax reporting and remittance activities.
- Assist with payroll accounting tasks, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables.
- Respond to employee and stakeholder questions in a prompt, professional manner.
- Work in a hands-on capacity, including both personal preparation work and review/oversight of others' work.
What you need
- At least 5 years of progressive payroll experience.
- A Payroll Compliance Professional designation from the National Payroll Association.
- Prior supervisor experience or direct people-management responsibility.
- Ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements and apply the related payroll rules.
- Working knowledge of payroll legislation across multiple Canadian provinces; experience with Quebec payroll rules is an advantage.
- Comfort learning quickly in a new environment and working with limited supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
- Must be able to work onsite in London, Ontario; this is a fully in-office position.
