Job description
About the organization
Vancouver Airport Authority (YVR) is a hub of connection that links people, places, and cargo while keeping the experience safe and efficient for everyone. Within the HR function, Total Rewards covers more than base pay and includes wellness benefits, growth and development opportunities, recognition initiatives, and a workplace designed to support employee well-being and progress.
Role overview
This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys payroll work and delivering strong service to employees. The Payroll and Benefits Administrator will join the Total Rewards team and play an important role in ensuring payroll and benefits are processed accurately, on time, and in line with legal, tax, and collective agreement requirements. The position works closely with the Manager of Payroll and contributes to a collaborative, growth-oriented culture.
Key responsibilities
- Run payroll for all YVR employees, including salaried, hourly, and unionized staff, while meeting all regulatory and tax obligations.
- Apply collective agreement rules covering pay rates, overtime, shift premiums, statutory holiday compensation, leave provisions, and other payroll entitlements.
- Keep employee records accurate and current, including time worked, attendance, vacation, sick leave, and other absences, while protecting confidential data and following privacy requirements.
- Audit, compare, and reconcile payroll information to spot errors, correct discrepancies, and close issues quickly and professionally.
- Respond with a high level of service to questions from employees, managers, and union representatives about payroll, benefits, and leave administration.
- Administer benefits such as health and dental coverage, pension plans, and other employee perks, and handle employee changes efficiently.
- Prepare payroll documents and filings, including Records of Employment, remittances, year-end reporting, and T4 slips.
- Work with HR, Finance, and operations teams to support employee life-cycle changes and ensure related updates are processed accurately and on time.
Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a comparable role within a unionized environment, with strong results history.
- Completion of the National Payroll Institute PCP program and accounting coursework, or an equivalent mix of training and experience.
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce, UKG, and SuccessFactors is preferred; similar payroll or HRM systems experience is also valuable.
- Advanced Excel skills for handling and analyzing large or complex data sets.
- Strong organization and time management abilities, with the capacity to juggle priorities and meet strict deadlines.
Additional information
French language ability is considered an asset because the organization is committed to bilingual service for visitors and passengers and to meeting federal language obligations. Candidates who do not speak French are still encouraged to apply.
This role is open to current Vancouver Airport Authority employees as well as external applicants. Internal candidates will have previous job performance considered as part of the selection process.
Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete an assessment as part of recruitment.
Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this role is CAD 78,160 to CAD 117,240 per year, based on a 37.5-hour work week. Pay will be aligned to experience, qualifications, and internal equity. The position is also eligible for an annual performance-based incentive with a target of 7.5% of annual salary.
YVR offers generous vacation time, broad health coverage, retirement savings matching, wellness programs, community involvement opportunities, commuting support, and ongoing learning and development.
