Job description

About the company

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) was founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz. The firm backs ambitious founders using technology to build what comes next. It invests across the full company lifecycle, from seed through venture and growth, in areas such as AI, bio and healthcare, consumer, crypto, enterprise, fintech, games, and businesses contributing to American dynamism. The firm manages more than $100B across multiple funds and has supported companies including Anduril, Airbnb, Coinbase, Cursor, Databricks, Deel, Figma, GitHub, Roblox, SpaceX, and Stripe.

The team is built around respect for founders and the company-building journey, drawing on firsthand understanding of what it means to be in a founder’s position. It works closely with startups that are shaping major shifts in technology and society.

Role overview

The Executive Talent team at a16z is grounded in the values of integrity, network, and innovation. In this role, the Go-to-Market Talent Partner will identify, evaluate, develop, and oversee a strong network of leaders in sales, marketing, business development, and customer success for the benefit of portfolio companies and other key stakeholders.

The preferred base location is Menlo Park, CA. Candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area may also be considered. The role can require in-office attendance when needed for team and portfolio company meetings, typically about every two weeks.

Key responsibilities

  • Strengthen the GTM talent network by building relationships with talent, assessing capability, and offering career guidance; become a trusted source of advice for high-potential individuals.
  • Advise portfolio companies on hiring strategy so they can assemble strong leadership teams and improve both hiring speed and hiring quality.
  • Work closely with search firms and help deepen relationships with top partners in that ecosystem.
  • Broaden the a16z network by connecting with industry leaders and using those relationships to surface possible investment ideas.

Required qualifications

  • At least 6 years of experience handling full-cycle recruiting for go-to-market functions.
  • A well-developed network within enterprise technology.
  • Hands-on experience in evaluating candidates, recruiting leaders, and assembling executive teams, along with familiarity with compensation patterns and market benchmarking.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with founders, CEOs, and other senior executives.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with VP- and director-level talent, search firms, and staffing organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a demanding workload, juggle multiple priorities, and adapt quickly.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • A low-ego, empathetic approach and the ability to work well across diverse teams.

Behavioral strengths

  • Natural connector who enjoys meeting and evaluating people.
  • Quick at understanding both individual capability and organizational context.
  • Able to interpret motivations and organizational dynamics clearly.
  • Self-directed, mentally agile, and capable of creative research and problem-solving.
  • Comfortable using data, sound judgment, and analysis to make decisions.
  • Highly driven, persistent, and effective at closing work quickly.
  • Strong team player who is collaborative, supportive, and generous.

Compensation and benefits

The expected base salary range for this position is $239,000 to $278,000. Actual starting pay may differ depending on factors such as experience, skills, and the scope of the role.

This position is eligible for participation in the carry program and may also include discretionary bonus opportunities. Additional benefits and perks can include health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, vacation time, and sick leave.

Culture

  • Deliver work at a first-class standard in a first-class way.
  • Value long-term relationships and treat them as central to the business.
  • Believe in the future and back that conviction with action.
  • Respect differences and turn them into an advantage.
  • Celebrate wins and good moments together.
  • Prioritize the team above the individual.
  • Compete with a strong drive to win.

Equal opportunity and compliance

a16z states that it welcomes candidates from all backgrounds and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital or family status, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status.
