Job description
Overview
Defence Housing Australia is recruiting an experienced Operations Support Officer to strengthen the Service Delivery Team in Townsville. This position offers the chance to contribute to an organisation that supports Australian Defence Force members and their families with housing and related services.
About Defence Housing Australia
Established in 1988 under the Defence Housing Australia Act 1987, DHA provides suitable housing and housing-related services to ADF members and their families in support of Defence’s operational requirements. The organisation manages a growing housing portfolio, supports more than 17,200 ADF members and their families with housing, and administers rent allowance for over 16,000 members in private rentals. It also delivers eligibility advice, posting support, and booking and allocation services for DHA-provisioned housing and on-base accommodation to around 60,000 ADF members.
About the Team
The Service Delivery Group delivers DHA’s housing services, including housing provision, stock oversight, allocation, living-in accommodation, repairs, maintenance, and tenancy support. Regional Service Operations offices act as the first contact point for ADF members seeking help with allocations, rent allowance, and home maintenance, while also providing local insight into community services and housing market conditions.
About the Role
The Operations Support Officer provides administrative assistance, facilities support, and customer service to help keep DHA’s Townsville operations running smoothly. Reporting to the Assistant Regional Operations Manager, the role sits in a busy, service-focused setting where priorities can shift quickly. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for dealing professionally with customers, colleagues, and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Key Duties
In this role, you will support day-to-day operations by helping maintain business continuity, responding to changing work priorities, and delivering high-quality administrative and customer service support.
Employment Details
This is a non-ongoing engagement for up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension or conversion to permanency.
All successful applicants must hold a valid driver licence.
Benefits
DHA offers a range of workplace benefits, including 15.4% superannuation, generous leave provisions, flexible working arrangements, a supportive culture, opportunities to expand your industry knowledge, career development prospects, an Employee Assistance Program for you and your family, and ADF partner employment conditions when relocating to a new location.
How to Apply
Applicants should submit a current resume and a one-page pitch of up to 500 words addressing the role requirements. DHA recommends reviewing the Australian Public Service Commission’s guidance on writing strong responses and considering the behaviours expected at this role level in the Integrated Leadership System. Additional role information is available in the Candidate Information Pack on the online careers site.
