Job description
Role overview
The Operations Manager will own the full spectrum of fulfillment center operations for the assigned function. This role is accountable for driving site-level cost efficiency at Six Sigma standards, leading regional and national initiatives, maintaining quality and building health, and strengthening team capability and employee engagement across the fulfillment center in coordination with support teams.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a safe workplace for every associate in the facility.
- Direct and support a team of Area Managers and Team Leads, with PAs and associates operating under them in fulfillment center operations.
- Own the department’s safety, quality, productivity, and delivery outcomes.
- Plan ahead for capacity, forecast demand, review performance, solve operational issues, and identify staffing requirements.
- Study daily work projections and set productivity targets needed to achieve building goals.
- Track building health and inventory metrics while ensuring top-tier quality performance.
- Deliver BM rate and OP2 throughput targets.
- Collaborate closely with other Operations Managers and spread proven practices across functions.
- Spot improvement opportunities early and drive process enhancement initiatives.
- Learn system changes related to order processing and communicate new processes and control steps to teams.
- Lead ART/Annual Sale preparedness from a capacity standpoint, including planning for manpower, materials, and machines.
- Apply strong people-management practices and remain accountable for FC compliance, connections, and scorecards.
- Understand flex levers, adopt new Amazon-specific technical processes, and work with ERP systems relevant to the role.
Experience and education
The role prefers candidates with an engineering or MBA background and 7+ years of experience. The basic qualification includes at least 3 years of employee and performance management experience, along with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or 3+ years of experience in performance metrics, process improvement, or lean methods. A preferred qualification is 1+ years of experience in performance metrics, process improvement, or lean techniques.
Team structure
This position serves as the department head and leads a team made up of Area Managers and Team Leads.
