Role summary
This position focuses on assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with upper-limb conditions, including injuries, post-surgical cases, and long-term issues affecting the hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. The therapist will use therapeutic exercise, hands-on treatment, and other clinical modalities to help patients recover strength, mobility, and function, while also guiding patients and their families throughout rehabilitation.
Key responsibilities
The role involves comprehensive evaluation of hand and upper-extremity movement, strength, sensation, dexterity, and overall functional ability. Treatment planning must be tailored to each patient’s goals, medical background, and relevant surgical instructions. Clinical care may include manual techniques, splinting, scar care, swelling reduction, and neuromuscular retraining. The therapist will also create and fit custom static and dynamic orthoses for protection, support, or functional improvement.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy, or have completed a recognized direct-entry program leading to an MSc in Occupational Therapy. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in hand therapy is required, along with prior exposure to treating hand injuries or related conditions. The applicant must have current Basic Life Support certification and a valid Department of Health license in the UAE. Strong knowledge of upper-limb anatomy, biomechanics, and surgical protocols is essential, as is the ability to fabricate orthoses and apply evidence-based rehabilitation methods.
