Nursing Curriculum Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Position Overview

This role offers a part-time opportunity of 10 to 15 hours per week, focused on enhancing nursing course content. As a Subject Matter Expert, you will apply your clinical expertise to refine and improve course materials, learning activities, and assessments to ensure nursing graduates possess strong clinical judgment and readiness for professional practice. The role supports a flexible schedule and is on-site in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a content authority within your nursing specialty such as pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, community and public health, fundamentals, chronic illness, pediatrics, geriatrics, or maternal health.
• Collaborate to redevelop course materials incorporating clinically relevant and evidence-supported information.
• Evaluate and enhance learning exercises to effectively develop learners’ clinical judgment capabilities.
• Participate in the creation and review of assessments, including Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) style questions, case scenarios, and performance tasks to ensure accuracy and clinical realism.
• Validate course content for correctness and alignment with learners’ levels, identifying outdated, inconsistent, or missing elements.
• Work closely with teams in instructional design, assessment, learning experience design, and virtual reality development.
• Stay informed on current nursing practice developments and provide innovative recommendations to content strategy.
• Utilize learner performance data insights to guide content evolution and improvement.

Qualifications

• Required: Master's degree in nursing.
• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Proven knowledge in one or more nursing specialties.
• Experience in teaching nursing students or contributing as a curriculum subject matter expert.
• Familiarity with American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials 2021 and NCLEX/NGN standards.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to provide precise, constructive feedback.
• Capability to work effectively within a structured, deadline-oriented environment.
• Meticulous attention to detail and dedication to evidence-based clinical practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral level education in nursing.
• Recent or ongoing clinical practice experience.
• Experience reviewing or developing assessment items, including test questions, case studies, and performance evaluations.

Compensation

The role offers a budgeting range of $50 per hour.
