Job description

About the Company

Cogent Communications is a global, publicly listed Tier 1 ISP that operates a facilities-based, all-optical IP backbone. It is regularly recognized among the world’s top networks and provides businesses with high-speed internet access, private network services, IPv4 address leasing, optical transport, and data center colocation. With network coverage in more than 228 markets worldwide, the company focuses on delivering high-capacity connectivity at competitive prices while maintaining end-to-end service control and network monitoring to support customer service quality.

Compensation

The role includes a starting base pay range of $19.23 to $38.46 per hour, or $40,000 to $80,000 per year. For employees with tenure, the base pay range increases to $19.23 to $48.07 per hour, or $40,000 to $100,000 per year, depending on performance and structured tenure-based increases. Earnings also include uncapped commissions, with commission calculations based on product type: 50% to 150% of one month’s MRCs, one-twelfth of one-time NRCs, and one-twenty-fourth of Burst revenue. Final offers may vary based on experience, education, skills, certifications, and business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Source and develop new business across a defined regional and national sales territory, with a focus on the mid-market and non-named national account segment of organizations with 500 to 999 employees.
  • Use direct outreach methods such as calls, email, and other contact efforts to identify, qualify, and convert prospects by engaging key decision-makers.
  • Support prospecting with in-person field activity, including building visits, lobby events, property management relationships, and face-to-face customer meetings.
  • Apply consultative and relationship-driven selling methods to uncover present and future connectivity needs.
  • Position Cogent’s services to win new business from prospects and existing opportunities.
  • Meet monthly revenue targets by selling into large commercial and retail buildings, office parks, and professional campuses.

Qualifications

  • Prior sales experience with a strong record of results is required, and recent experience is especially valued.
  • You should be able to show that you can find, qualify, and create new business opportunities through deep prospecting and research.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced team setting with revenue deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and CRM tools is an advantage.
  • A college degree is preferred, but it is not mandatory.

Work Environment

This is an in-office role requiring attendance five days per week. The setup is intended to provide close mentorship, training, and personal coaching to help support success.

Application Information

Applicants are asked to submit a resume and cover letter by email. Cogent Communications is an equal opportunity employer.

Benefits and Perks

The package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off of 20 days per year, short- and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, holidays, family leave of three weeks per year, a 401(k) with employer match, stock options, and an employee assistance program. The role also offers structured tenure-based salary growth and uncapped commission potential.
