Overview
This is a permanent full-time position based in Dover, supporting a responsive repairs service within occupied social housing homes. The role is practical and varied, covering multiple trades and requiring someone who can work independently, solve problems quickly, and deliver a strong standard of workmanship and customer care.
The successful candidate will help keep residents’ homes safe, usable, and well maintained by carrying out repairs across carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, decorating, and related tasks. The work is fast-paced and community-focused, with a strong emphasis on completing jobs properly, first time where possible.
Role details
Pay is up to £14.85 per hour, and the package includes a company van and fuel card. The working pattern is 42.5 hours per week, from 8:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.
What you will do
- Handle day-to-day reactive repairs in occupied social housing properties.
- Repair or replace skirting boards, architraves, and internal door frames.
- Fit and adjust kitchen units, worktops, and cupboard doors.
- Repair or replace internal doors, locks, handles, and hinges.
- Troubleshoot and fix minor plumbing problems such as leaks, dripping taps, and blocked sinks.
- Complete patch plastering and make good damaged walls or ceilings.
- Carry out wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing.
- Paint and decorate to a professional finish after repair work.
- Work safely and efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Show care and respect when working in residents’ homes and around their privacy.
- Take part in the out-of-hours emergency call rota when needed.
- Escalate further repair needs, safeguarding concerns, or property issues outside your remit.
- Provide excellent service to residents throughout the repair process.
- Record job details, materials used, and completion updates accurately on handheld devices or paper job sheets.
- Look after tools, equipment, and the company vehicle to keep them in good working order.
- Plan your day effectively so service targets are met.
Requirements
- Proven experience in domestic repair and maintenance work across several trades such as carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, and decorating.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Confidence working alone and managing your own workload.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent customer service skills, especially in occupied homes.
- A solid understanding of health and safety rules and safe working methods.
- Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to log work.
- Willingness to join the out-of-hours emergency rota.

Eligibility and important information
Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available. To drive a company vehicle, you must be over 21 years old, have held your driving licence for at least 3 months, and have fewer than 9 points on it.
