Job summary

We are hiring a seasoned Motor Underwriting Manager to direct the motor underwriting function and ensure the portfolio grows profitably. This position focuses on sound risk evaluation, adherence to underwriting standards and regulatory obligations, continuous improvement of underwriting processes and systems, and support for wider commercial goals.

What you will do

  • Take charge of the motor underwriting team and keep day-to-day operations running smoothly while maintaining service standards.
  • Assess and approve underwriting cases within the limits of delegated authority.
  • Analyze motor insurance risks and determine appropriate pricing.
  • Create, refine, and roll out underwriting policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Track portfolio results, profitability, and claims-related loss ratios.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulations and internal policy requirements.
  • Work closely with brokers, agents, and internal teams to help grow the business.
  • Identify operational needs and lead improvements to underwriting systems and digital tools that raise efficiency and service quality.
  • Compile underwriting reports and review performance data.
  • Coach, guide, and develop members of the underwriting team.

Qualifications and experience

The role calls for a bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or another related discipline, along with 7–10 years of experience in motor underwriting. Candidates should also bring at least 3 years of managerial or supervisory experience. Professional credentials such as IFCE, ACII, Cert CII, or an equivalent qualification are considered an advantage.
