Job description
Role overview
The Morgue Officer oversees the end-to-end handling of deceased persons within the hospital, including receiving bodies from all units, accompanying them to the morgue, and coordinating release to relatives in line with hospital and Ministry of Health rules.
Key duties
- Accept deceased bodies from all hospital units and departments and facilitate their release to family members when authorized.
- Escort the body from the ward or unit to the morgue.
- Ensure all receipt and handover processes comply with Ministry of Health regulations.
- Monitor morgue maintenance concerns and escalate any issues to the Duty Manager’s Office.
- Prepare the required paperwork for amputated parts, store them appropriately in the morgue, and track burial follow-up if relatives do not collect the part within one week.
- Maintain all morgue-related files and records securely.
- Submit a weekly report to the MOH liaison for any body held in the morgue for more than two weeks and for cases retained due to criminal or legal reasons.
- Keep morgue records properly archived in coordination with medical records.
