Chattanooga Football Club exists to strengthen community through soccer, broaden opportunity for players, and create meaningful experiences for fans in Chattanooga. The club supports this mission through its men’s and women’s teams, youth camps, academy programs, adult leagues, and charitable initiatives.
This role is central to that purpose, helping advance football initiatives and events that support player development and create lasting impact for Chattanooga’s youth.
Position Summary
The Sport Science Coordinator supports the high-performance staff by using technology and data to help individualize training plans. The role works closely with the MLS NEXT program and the women’s team, while regularly coordinating with athletic care, medical, training, and technical staff. The position reports to the MLS NEXT Director, Director of Performance, and Women’s Team Head Coach.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a Sport Science Coordinator for the MLS NEXT teams and the women’s team.
- Gather, organize, and interpret club GPS information for incoming players to estimate training load during camp.
- Work with force plate data through Vald ForceDecks to support training-load decisions.
- Run and support Catapult live on-field workload monitoring to help players stay within individual targets in real time.
- Process post-session GPS data immediately after training so visual reports can be shared quickly with key stakeholders.
- Support nutrition and hydration practices that improve performance and recovery.
- Assist medical staff with late-stage return-to-play progress for injured athletes.
- Help collect morning screening information to guide training participation and load adjustments.
- Support one-on-one technical work aimed at meeting physical goals on the field.
- Assist with club-designed individual resistance training plans.
- Help with team activation and cooldown routines.
- Take part in high-performance department meetings.
- Assist with physical strength and conditioning assessments for players.
- Use technology and normative data to establish individualized external-load thresholds.
- Maintain an organized exercise database to support planning of key physical outputs.
- Carry out additional duties that support the club’s purpose, mission, and vision.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate brings 2 to 3 years of experience in sports operations, sporting events, or administrative management, along with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, Kinesiology, or a related discipline. A master’s degree is preferred.
Applicants should understand soccer and the broader professional sports environment, be comfortable working across departments, and be able to maintain confidentiality while building strong relationships. The role also calls for excellent communication, organization, time management, collaboration, multitasking, adaptability, problem-solving, and a commitment to ongoing learning.
Licensing and Certifications
- CSCS, PES, or an equivalent certification.
- A valid driver’s license that is current and maintained.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to complete SafeSport training if not already completed.
- Willingness to complete concussion training if not already completed.
- A dependable personal means of transportation.
- Ability to legally work without club sponsorship.
- Ownership of a personal laptop for efficient work.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
This is a medium-physical-demand role that may require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds occasionally, or up to 25 pounds frequently. The job also involves bending, stretching, reaching, and periods of sitting, climbing, crouching, kneeling, and standing.
The position is regularly performed outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, cold, wet or humid conditions, dry or arid conditions, and extreme weather.
Schedule and Employment Details
This is a full-time, exempt role within the Sporting department. The workweek may run Monday through Sunday, and hours will vary based on assignment. The schedule requires flexibility for extended days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel.
