Role overview

OceanaGold’s Macraes Mine is looking for a Metallurgical Technician to join the Metallurgy team. This position suits someone who works well with others and is aligned with the company’s purpose, vision, and values. Macraes is New Zealand’s largest mining operation, with about 650 employees, and it offers strong opportunities for career growth.

The main focus of the role is to carry out laboratory testwork programs and support optimisation of the processing plant. The successful person will work a 7-days-on, 7-days-off roster on day shift only. The role also provides exposure to ore sampling, metallurgical laboratory testing, health and safety practices, and the gold mining industry, while supporting the Processing team.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out routine laboratory testwork by following standard operating procedures.
  • Complete assigned test programs on time and in line with metallurgical laboratory standards, ensuring results are recorded in the correct reporting template.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality, accuracy, and repeatability in all test results.
  • Raise and communicate any issues connected to the test program or the metallurgical laboratory.
  • Carry out monthly checks of the metallurgical laboratory and equipment storage areas.
  • Perform data entry and general administrative tasks.
  • Report all incidents and hazards in INX.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a metallurgical laboratory, analytical testing laboratory, or a similar environment, with understanding of standard work practices.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Genuine interest in the mining industry.
  • Reasonable physical fitness.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Able to communicate effectively as part of a team.
  • Hold a full, clean, current driver’s licence and be comfortable driving a manual vehicle.
