Job description
About the Company
HFDF (Hematian Family Duty Free), a business within the Effy Jewelry group, operates onboard retail concessions across 20 cruise ships. The company serves travelers with a wide mix of products, ranging from daily necessities to pre-owned luxury watches, and delivers a broad shopping experience at sea. Its environment combines large-scale retail operations with the standards and growth focus associated with the Effy family of businesses.
Role Overview
The Merchandise Coordinator will work closely with the buying team to keep assortment planning, order handling, vendor coordination, and inventory activities running efficiently for the HF Duty Free business. This position plays a key operational role in helping the buying strategy translate into well-executed product availability and a strong guest experience across multiple ships and ports.
Key Responsibilities
- Support buyers with assortment execution, purchase entry, and upkeep of internal systems.
- Coordinate with brands and suppliers on product details, order updates, sample requests, pricing changes, and promotional assets.
- Monitor purchase orders and stock positions, assist with replenishment, and contribute to allocation planning so inventory is balanced across ships.
- Build sales summaries, inventory reports, and other analytical materials to help guide buying decisions.
- Keep product records accurate, help create and maintain SKUs, and manage order- and vendor-related paperwork.
- Partner with planning, logistics, and shipboard teams to support smooth movement of products from sourcing through onboard availability.
- Assist with launch coordination, seasonal assortment rollouts, and promotional initiatives through administrative and operational support.
Experience and Skills
The role calls for prior experience in merchandise coordination or a related retail support function. Experience in travel retail or cruise retail is considered an advantage. Strong organization, careful attention to detail, and the ability to juggle several priorities in a time-sensitive setting are important. The job also requires confidence using Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, along with familiarity with inventory or retail systems such as JDA, Oracle, SAP, or similar tools. Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills are needed for day-to-day collaboration with vendors and internal teams.
Preferred Background
Applicants with experience in luxury, beauty, fashion, or accessories are preferred. Exposure to international logistics, duty-free rules, or cruise retail operations would also be beneficial.
Additional Requirements
This position may require occasional travel for buying meetings, vendor visits, or cruise-related operational support. Candidates must already have valid U.S. work authorization and must maintain it throughout employment, as visa sponsorship is not available.
