Job description
Role overview
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking committed, reliable and energetic people to join the Microbiology team within Pathology at North Tyneside General Hospital as Medical Laboratory Assistants.
This position is the first contact point for the laboratory, so a welcoming manner, strong communication, and the ability to work well with others are important. The team looks for someone who is careful, quick to learn, and able to stay accurate while working at pace.
Main duties
You will support scientific colleagues with the receipt, preparation and labelling of patient samples and requests, along with data entry tasks. The job also includes helping with the upkeep and quality checks of specialist analysers and other technical equipment, plus carrying out general support work across the laboratory.
Working environment
The Microbiology service runs every day of the week, around the clock, so the role is within a 24/7 clinical setting. A calm and organised approach is needed, together with good keyboard ability and careful attention to detail.
Experience and training
Experience in an NHS clinical laboratory would be helpful, though it is not a requirement because full training will be provided.
Additional information
The employer may close this vacancy before the advertised closing date if enough suitable applications are received.
Northumbria Healthcare serves several large hospitals including North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, as well as community hospitals, clinics and home-based care services across the region from Tynemouth to Berwick upon Tweed. The trust also runs the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital and focuses on delivering high-quality care and positive patient experiences.
