Job description

Role overview

This permanent Mechanical Day Technician position is based in Clondalkin, Dublin, with working hours from Monday to Thursday, 07:00 to 15:30, and Friday, 07:00 to 15:00. The role focuses on supporting and improving mechanical reliability across a range of utility and plant systems, including predictive maintenance, CMMS processes, and reliability practices.

The technician will be trained across key processes and techniques related to fuel oil systems, industrial gas distribution, turbines, boilers, compressors, and diesel generators, with an emphasis on safe operations, plant uptime, and continuous improvement.

Key duties

The role involves coordinating daily activity with shift technicians, especially during morning handovers, and serving as a contact point for service providers. It also includes fault investigation, root cause analysis, and the review of deviations affecting utility plant and equipment.

Responsibilities include carrying out preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, ensuring maintenance tasks are completed on schedule, and working confidently with CMMS systems. The technician will also help create maintenance plans, job plans, and SOPs, coordinate with the site planner on spare parts, and review maintenance programmes to keep uptime at the desired level.

In addition, the role requires support for safety compliance, leadership in operational decision-making, and the ability to judge when plant equipment should be taken offline, backed up, or restored to service. The technician may also assist in emergency response, provide guidance to team members, and support the site engineer and HV engineer in root cause analysis, utility isolations, capital improvement work, commissioning, and handover from projects to operations.

Technical focus

Hands-on experience with fuel oil storage and distribution, industrial gas installations, gas and steam turbines, diesel generators, and boilers is important. The successful candidate should also be able to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and strengthen working practices across the site.

Additional notes

This day lead technician role may occasionally require covering shift duties and supporting the site outside standard working hours in emergency situations.

Required background

The position calls for a craft-qualified mechanical professional with prior experience in a similar environment. Experience in energy conversion and distribution is preferred, along with a practical understanding of lean or Six Sigma methods and an analytical approach to problem-solving.
