Role overview
The Manager, HR Operations and Employee Relations leads employee relations activity and performance management across the organization while also supervising key HR operations areas such as payroll, benefits, compensation, HRIS, and HR compliance. In this role, you will work closely with leaders to support performance decisions, handle workplace investigations, and help ensure employee practices are applied consistently in line with company policy and applicable law.
Key responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the performance management process, including manager coaching, documentation practices, and follow-up tracking.
- Act as the main point of contact for employee relations issues, including investigations, policy concerns, and workplace complaints.
- Carry out timely, detailed, and unbiased investigations and maintain documentation that supports strong and defensible decisions.
- Guide managers through employee performance concerns, risk reduction, and appropriate next steps.
- Create and deliver coaching, guidance, and training that improve performance management quality and documentation.
- Promote consistent use of company policies and employee practices across the business.
- Analyze patterns in performance and employee relations cases and recommend preventive actions.
- Provide oversight and support for HR operations activities related to payroll, benefits, compensation, HRIS, and HR compliance.
- Work with internal colleagues and external vendors to resolve issues and maintain effective service delivery.
- Help ensure HR processes are accurate, efficient, and able to scale with business needs.
- Collaborate with HR business partners and HR leadership to align execution of people practices.
- Complete other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a similar field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
- At least 5 years of advancing HR experience with exposure to employee relations and HR operations.
- Strong employee relations experience, including independently handling investigations and complex employee matters.
- Proven ability to coach managers and influence performance-related decisions.
- Experience working at an HR Manager level or equivalent leadership level with ownership of employee relations outcomes and performance management decisions.
- Experience overseeing or supporting HR operations functions such as payroll, benefits, compensation, HRIS, and HR compliance.
- Experience managing or supporting cross-functional processes and operational work.
- Ability to evaluate risk and make sound decisions in complex or unclear situations.
- Strong judgment and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills for advising leaders in challenging situations.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong English communication skills are required for understanding policies, writing correspondence, and communicating with colleagues or clients.
Work environment
This position is generally based in a controlled indoor office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Office noise is usually moderate and consistent with a standard workplace setting.
For employees approved to work in a hybrid or remote arrangement, a quiet private workspace with minimal distractions is required during work hours. A dependable internet connection is also necessary. The company will provide the needed equipment, including a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset.
Physical and travel requirements
- Frequent and extended sitting at a desk while working on a computer.
- Regular speaking, listening, reading, and writing throughout the workday.
- Frequent use of hands for typing and mouse use.
- Occasional walking and stair climbing, with limited bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying of office-related items.
- Occasional travel is required for company meetings.
Compensation and benefits
The compensation range for this role is $100,000 to $120,000 per year, with final pay based on qualifications, experience, and business needs. This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus plan and a comprehensive benefits package that includes retirement savings, health coverage, and paid time off.
